· The agreement between Enel’s global business line and the Iveco Group’s commercial vehicle brand gives rise to a wide-ranging cooperation in the e-Mobility field.
Rome, Turin, March 30th, 2022 - Synergies to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles, joint studies for offers related to charging infrastructure, prospects for further cooperation in the e-mobility field: these are some of the areas under the memorandum of understanding signed by Enel X, Enel’s global business line dedicated to innovation and digital solutions, and IVECO, a brand from the Iveco Group that designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of heavy, medium and light commercial vehicles, with a strong specialization in alternative propulsion.
“The partnership with IVECO is essential to accelerate the energy transition of the transport sector by promoting a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions, particularly in urban areas,” said Francesco Venturini, CEO of Enel X. “Our aim is to support the decarbonization of cities and transport through innovative and sustainable solutions based on two pillars: electrification and digitalization. We want to continue to lead this process of change, particularly in the electrification of public transport, by offering value-added services for more than 3,000 buses.”
“We have embarked on a path of moving towards zero CO2 emissions, in which electrification is a key factor in achieving the objectives of the entire commercial vehicle sector,” commented Luca Sra, President Truck Business Unit of Iveco Group. “We are fully committed to this direction, and the protocol signed today with Enel X marks the beginning of a strategic cooperation between Iveco and one of the most important players in the energy sector. We are confident that this agreement will create new opportunities to further accelerate the energy transition we are leading.”
Specifically, the collaboration aims to exploit the potential of e-mobility for commercial vehicles in Europe, with a particular focus on light trucks, heavy trucks and buses. The two companies will evaluate the best ways in which Iveco’s electric commercial vehicles can support the transition of Enel's fleet to zero-emission vehicles, while also examining business opportunities in the bus and truck market segment. The agreement also provides for the development of a joint offering related to the e-mobility segment of the commercial fleet, possible synergies in the field of advanced services and, by pooling their respective technical expertise in the field of research & development, the assessment of the interoperability of the Enel X charging infrastructure with Iveco Group’s electric vehicles.
