LEDs to light up the 2023 Pan American Games

One of the key drivers of Enel X and Signify’s winning bid was the use of highly sustainable energy efficient LED lights, which not only reduce power consumption but also guarantee optimal lighting conditions for athletes and spectators. The project was developed in two phases: in the first phase, existing lighting equipment, lines and connections were dismantled. In the second phase, the entire infrastructure – existing equipment, transformer, ducts, wiring and electrical installations – is being replaced with highly energy efficient LED lights that help improve the structure’s overall sustainability performance. With this new technology, the National Stadium joins the most important sporting venues in the region in upgrading their lighting infrastructure, incorporating the world's most efficient solution to meet the standards required by sports federations for high-definition television broadcasting.

 

Overall installed capacity will be 320 kW, ensuring light uniformity and optimizing the illumination of the National Stadium’s athletic track. Additionally, an individual control system is being incorporated into the solution to permit independent orientation of each single projector installed, allowing for dynamic illumination of specific sections of the track. Finally, the LED solution will enable creation of exciting light shows, synchronized with audio and video. “For Enel X, it is a pleasure to be able to advance in the energy efficiency of such iconic venues as the National Stadium in Santiago,” remarks Karla Zapata, CEO of Enel X Chile. “We will also be implementing world-class innovation and technology, but in a way that is sustainable and efficient.”
